The Only 10 Pieces You Need for a Resort Wear Capsule
Every time I pack for a beach trip, I swear I’m going to “pack light.” And then suddenly I’ve got three dresses I don’t even wear and a suitcase that barely closes. 🙈 That’s why I finally gave myself a rule: stick to a resort capsule wardrobe. Just a handful of mix-and-match pieces that make getting dressed simple and—bonus—leave space in my bag for souvenirs.
Here’s what I’ve learned you actually need (and nothing more):
1. A breezy white dress
If I could only bring one thing, this would be it. It works as a swimsuit cover-up in the morning and somehow looks totally dressed up with earrings at night.
2. Wide-leg linen pants
Honestly, these are a lifesaver in hot weather. Comfy like pajamas but you look instantly chic. I usually wear mine with a tank or even just toss them over a bikini.
3. One swimsuit you love
Forget packing five options. Bring the one that makes you feel amazing—whether that’s a bold print, a cutout, or a classic one-piece. Confidence beats variety here.
4. A lightweight kimono or cover-up
This is that throw-on-and-go piece. Pool, beach, lunch, even dinner with sandals—it just works.
5. A big sun hat
Practical and cute. Plus, I won’t lie… it makes photos look so much more glamorous.
6. Neutral sandals
Pick one pair you can walk in and also wear out to dinner. I always go with tan because it matches literally everything.
7. A maxi dress for evenings
There’s always that one night where you want to feel a little dressed up. A flowy maxi solves it instantly.
8. A woven tote
Mine doubles as my beach bag and my carry-on. Holds sunscreen, snacks, a book… all the essentials.
9. Statement earrings
Even the simplest outfit feels pulled together if you add a fun pair of earrings. Honestly, they take zero space in your bag but make a big difference.
10. A light scarf or wrap
This one surprised me at first, but I use it constantly. On the plane, as a sarong, or when the evening breeze gets chilly.
Why This Works
With just these 10 things, I can create tons of outfits without overpacking. More importantly, I actually wear everything I bring. No more dragging home dresses that never left the suitcase.
